Mentoring, Editing, Manuscript Consultation
Writing can be lonely. It’s not always easy to figure out what your work is trying to become. A trusted guide can help you untangle the knots, support you when you need encouragement, and challenge you to dig deeper.
Private editing and consultations are mainly through the Vancouver Manuscript Intensive.

Experience
With more than two decades as a writing teacher and editor in settings ranging from secondary school classrooms to the Queen’s University’s Writing Centre, for a number of years, I have also served as a private instructor and manuscript consultant to many individuals and literary presses, including McGill-Queen’s, University of Alberta, and University of Calgary Press. I’ve mentored young writers from underserved communities as part of the Kingston Writersfest’s Merilyn Simonds Protégé Project, and adult writers, both privately, and through the Northwestern Ontario Writers’ Workshop E-Writer in Residence program and the Vancouver Manuscript Intensive.
I’m a graduate of UBC’s MFA program, where I sat on the editorial board of Prism International. I have also held a Bread Loaf scholarship and fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center and the Banff Literary Journalism program, and I’ve participated in a number of other workshops, retreats, and residencies. I hold a BA in Philosophy and Political Science from Trinity College, University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s. Professional affiliations include memberships in the Writers’ Union of Canada, the League of Canadian Poets, and the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society.
